Steel is
Real

Every frame is fillet-brazed by hand in our Portland workshop. We use only the finest steel tubing — Reynolds 853, Columbus Thron, and True Temper. Because the journey matters more than the weight.

Our Story

We Started
in a Garage.
We Never Left.

Primitive Cycles was born in 2019 from a simple conviction: the best bicycle frame material is steel. Not because it's traditional - because it's superior. Steel absorbs the chatter that carbon transmits. It survives the crashes that aluminum doesn't. It ages beautifully instead of failing catastrophically.

Every frame that leaves our workshop is made by one person, start to finish. No assembly line. No delegation. One builder's hands, one builder's judgment, one builder's responsibility. That's why we only produce about 80 frames a year.

Our accessories and clothing follow the same philosophy - designed in-house, made in small batches, built to last. We're not trying to be the biggest. We're trying to be the most honest.

Riders Speak

"Rode the Timber Wolf from Portland to Salt Lake City over 12 days. Fully loaded. The bike disappeared under me - that's the highest compliment I can give a frame."

"The Blackout Jacket is the first piece of cycling clothing I own that I actually wear off the bike. Looks like a normal jacket. Rides like armor."

JL
Jenna L.
Blackout Jacket — 2024

"I've owned carbon, titanium, and aluminum. The Trail Hunter is my first steel frame. It will be my last frame. Nothing else compares for the riding I do."
